NEW On-line Services
The Town now offers new Building Services ON-LINE via a Public Portal allowing registered users access from the convenience of their home or office at any time of day to:
- obtain up-to-date permit status
- schedule permit inspections
- receive automatic notification of inspection results
- view public information regarding specific properties
This service is part of the Town’s continuing commitment to offer user-friendly, efficient service to its residents, businesses and contractors.
Future enhancements to this on-line service will include offering customers the ability to submit building permit applications and pay fees on-line.
Inspection Process
A Town Building Inspector will visit your site within approximately 2 business days of receiving your request for an inspection.

If you require a reinspection, there is a $50.00 fee.
Ontario Building Code Enforcement
Every municipality in Ontario is given the responsibility for the enforcement of the Building Code Act and the Code. This requires us to appoint a Chief Building Official and inspectors to issue permits and perform inspections.
If there are problems identified during inspections, our primary goal is to work with the permit holder to achieve voluntary compliance within a stated timeline.
Occupancy Requirements
Section 11 of the Building Code Act requires that a new house must be completed and
inspected before occupancy can legally take place. In order to assist you in completing
and moving into your new home without undue delay, please note the following minimum Building Code requirements which must be met prior to the Town approving legal occupancy:
- All interior and exterior steps, stairs, landings and balconies must be completed.
- All interior and exterior stair handrails; landing, porch and balcony guards must be installed in accordance with Building Code requirements.
- Walls between living areas and attached garage must be gas tight and doors from garage to living area must be weather-stripped and provided with a self-closing device.
- Product of combustion (fire/smoke) detectors must be installed and in working condition.
- Central heating system must be completed and operational.
- Kitchen sink must be installed with hot and cold water supply and drain connection. Kitchen range exhaust ductwork, where applicable, must be installed in accordance with Building Code requirements.
- One washroom must be completed with hot and cold water supply (connections to toilet, basin, bathtub or shower). Bathroom must have water resistant flooring, exhaust fan (if applicable) and must be complete with door.
- Basement/crawl space insulation must be installed and protected from damage or fire by a covering of gypsum board or equal. Insulation protected with a minimum 8-mil poly vapor barrier is not required to be protected by other means.
- Sump pump pit (where applicable) must be fitted with protective cover.
- Electrical light fixtures-both interior and exterior, must be completed and functional as required by Ontario Building Code.
- All exterior brickwork and siding must be completed, as well as caulking around perimeter of all doors, windows, and other openings.
- Thermal resistance ratings of all doors and windows must comply with Building Code requirements. Doors that do not meet the required thermal resistance ratings must be equipped with storm doors.
