Position Description:

Position Overview:  
Reporting to the Manager of Parks and Trails the Parks & Trails Summer Student is responsible for assisting with day-to-day outdoor maintenance and ensuring that the parks, trails and grounds amenities of the Town are well kept, including Town Hall and its grounds. As well as, other areas around the community that are under the umbrella of Council and the Town of The Blue Mountains. Duties include general landscaping, maintenance and grass cutting of all municipal park sites, sports fields and cemeteries, including municipal walkway system and various municipal institutional sites. As assigned perform daily bathroom checks and cleaning of bathroom facilities in various locations. As assigned maintain the floral displays on municipal property and perform general vegetation maintenance of Town trails. Operate a riding lawn mower, push lawn mower, power weed eater, understand standard operating procedures.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
• Currently enrolled in high school or post secondary program
• Minimum 1 year work experience in a team environment
• You are able to work with minimal supervision, follow and carry out instructions
• You possess proven communication skills to respond to general information requests from internal and external clients.
• You have interpersonal skills to deal with staff and to provide clear information.
• You have the ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends and statutory holidays as per schedule and in inclement weather.
• You are knowledgeable of the operation and maintenance of powered equipment such as lawnmowers, and small hand tools.
• Required to move, lift, carry, pull and place objects up to 50 pounds without assistance
• Required to stand, sit or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire shift
• Required to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting and pulling
• Required to move over sloping, uneven or slippery surfaces
• Valid Standard first Aid and CPR/AED Certificate preferred
• Valid Ontario driver’s license

Hourly Salary Range: $14.20 - $17.26 (2018 Rate)
High School Seasonal Contract, July – End of August – 3 Positions Available
University/College Seasonal Contract, April 30 – End of August – 2 Positions Available
