Position Description:

Position Overview:  
Reporting to the Manager of Solid Waste and Special Projects the Summer Student will effectively and efficiently assist with operational and maintenance duties for the Solid Waste Disposal Site. Duties will include assisting with general maintenance and care of the Disposal Site’s operations which includes composting, depot recycling, electronic and hazardous waste and landfilling of municipal solid waste. To assist the Site patrons and public with way finding on the Site and respectfully conveying the Site waste sorting rules. To inspect waste loads and assisting patrons with classifying waste. The position requires an excellent understanding of various waste types and sorting requirements. Communicate to patrons in an effective and courteous manner Site and Division programs, policies and procedures. Specific tasks will include: litter collection, household hazardous waste sorting, cleaning of shop and yard, assistance with record keeping and sampling and other Town duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
• Minimum one year work experience in a team environment
• Currently enrolled in a postsecondary institution in a related field
• Aptitude in machinery and vehicle operation and maintenance
• Ability to foster good working and interpersonal communications
• Required to move, lift, carry, pull and place objects up to 50 pounds without assistance
• Required to stand, sit or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire shift
• Required to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting and pulling
• Required to move over sloping, uneven or slippery surfaces
• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR/AED certificate preferred
• Valid Ontario driver’s license

Hourly Salary Range: $14.20 - $17.26 (2018 Rate)

University/College Seasonal Contract, April 30 – End of August – 1 Position Available
