Position Description:

The Town of The Blue Mountains is a growing and progressive, four-season community with stunning natural features, including the Niagara Escarpment, Beaver Valley and the Georgian Bay shoreline, and the various recreational activities and experiences they afford. We are seeking to fill the permanent position of Water Supervisor.

Position Overview:
• Help the Town achieve higher performance through proactive and innovative management, operations and maintenance of the community’s water infrastructure.

• Responsible for operation and maintenance of the Water Treatment facilities and Water Distribution facilities as required by Town policies and in accordance with Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) Regulations and Certificates of Approval/Licenses/Permits and other relevant legislation.
• Assume “Overall Responsible Operator” role as designated on rotational basis for Class 2 Water Treatment and Class 3 Water Distribution facilities. Act as “Operator in Charge” as required.
• Undertake training and fulfill experience requirements as necessary to maintain Water Treatment and Water Distribution MOECC Certified Operator Licenses including attending courses as directed and passing written exams.
• Report to the Manager of Water and Wastewater Services on a regular basis regarding the status of projects, functions and activities of the water group.
• Direct and monitor activities of the operators and provide recommendations with respect to personnel matters (hiring, performance evaluations, training).
• Ensure that all data, reports and permits required by the Certificates of Approval and MOECC are prepared and issued as required.
• Personally comply with and assume appropriate supervisory responsibility for compliance with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work in accordance with standard operation guidelines and the Occupational Health & Safety Act. Ensures the workplace environment is safe and healthy and that any hazards within areas of responsibilities are addressed.
• Ensure staff has received required training. Demonstrate and instruct on methods/techniques needed to accomplish assigned tasks.
• Assist in the development of divisional policies and programs relating to job duties, safety and operations, etc.
• Assist with preparation of yearly budgets and monitors divisional expenditures to ensure proper allocation of budgeted funds.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
• Require 2 years post-secondary education in a related field
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in water treatment and distribution
• Require Class 2 Water Treatment and Class 3 Water Distribution MOECC Certified Operator Licenses
• Strong interpersonal, communication (both verbal and written), problem solving, decision making, leadership and general management skills.
• Strong computer skills and knowledge including MS Office and HRIS
• Strong project management skills
• Thorough working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Clean Water Act and other related legislation are required to ensure compliant policies and practices.

Salary Range: $68, 877.07 - $84, 579.04 (2018 Rate).
