Community Emissions Inventory

Community Emissions Inventory

In 2007, an inventory of our municipal and community greenhouse gas emissions was completed. The inventory identified the sources of greenhouse gases from the Corporation (Town owned) and Community (everything else) and calculated the total quantity of emissions.

Energy use and resulting emission levels were measured in the following corporate sectors:

  • Buildings;
  • Water and Wastewater;
  • Streetlights;
  • Vehicle Fleet, and
  • Solid Waste.

In the Community, the following sectors were measured:

  • Residential;
  • Commercial;
  • Industrial;
  • Agriculture;
  • Transportation; and
  • Solid Waste.

The Partners for Climate Protection

PCP is a partnership between the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability. PCP receives financial support from the Green Municipal Fund as part of the Capacity Building Program.

The Blue Mountains is a proud partner in the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program.  This program is made up of a network of Canadian municipal governments who have committed to reducing greenhouse gases and acting on climate change.  PCP is the Canadian component of ICLEI's Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) network that is made up of more than 800 communities world-wide making the same efforts.  For more information on these milestones, please visit their website at www.sustainablecommunities.fcm.ca/partners-for-climate-protection.

We believe that we have an important contribution to make to climate protection.  Our Town has committed to reducing our Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Municipal operations 20% below 1994 levels by 2016 and community emissions by 6% below 1994 levels by 2016.  Through our ICSP, and Green House Gas Emissions Reduction Goals we are on the path to ensuring a sustainable community.
