Educational Programs and Kits
Plunge! into the Past
Plunge into the Past is a program which combines education, fun and physical activity!
From 10am to 2pm, students will have the opportunity to enjoy a day of swimming and learning! Half the day will be spent at the Craigleith Heritage Depot, where students will learn about local history through exciting interactive programs. Topics covered will be fossils, first nations, pioneers, military history, shipwrecks, railway history, early skiing and much more!
The second half of the day is spent enjoying Plunge! Aquatic Centre at the base of Blue Mountain. Plunge! Aquatic Centre provides entertainment for all ages featuring an indoor-outdoor pool, hot tubs, a rope swing, dock and slides for year-round fun! $15 per student. Bus cost included in the price. Lunch facilities available. Program can accommodate two classes per day.
The First Visit Program
Discover the unique history of The Blue Mountains spanning back 445 million years to the Ordovician period when our internationally renowned fossils were alive and swimming. Journey back to the ice age period and discover what stone tools were being made in Red Wing. Find out about when Craigleith belonged to the French and when the Petun people ruled the forest. Retrace the railway route and learn which “Knight” once lived in our Town. Learn about the weird and wonderful tools used by the pioneers and how they lived worked and played. And, find out why our area is so great at growing apples and learn what the early skiers used for equipment.
You can learn all this and much much more during your class or group's first guided tour of the Craigleith Heritage Depot.
Interactive activity to be included in the tour as well as a take home post visit activity.
· Cost $2/ student
· Tour length = 1 hour (One class per one hour time period)
· Minimum of two adult volunteers plus one teacher per class please
Educational Kits
The Depot also offers educational kits for teachers to bring into their classroom (click on the information on the right-hand-side for more information)
Depot services also include: collections services, family and genealogical files and archives, a photo repository and restoration services.
