Sparky's Spot

Sparky Says: How old is your smoke alarm?

Most smoke alarms have a life expectancy of 10 years...If they are in a dusty or residential property with a wood burning appliance they may need to be replaced sooner. If they "chirp" they are asking for maintenance, if once you have changed the battery and they still "chirping" replace the alarm. Did you know that hard wired smoke alarms require replacement at least every 10 years as well? Any questions, contact the fire prevention team for advice and assistance.
