Grey Road 40 & Hwy 26 Intersection EA

Grey Road 40 & Hwy 26 Intersection EA

The Town of The Blue Mountains, in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation and Grey County has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for potential improvements in this area to consider the solutions to meet projected increases in traffic volume and address traffic congestion and safety concerns related to access to Highway 26. The following improvements are being considered:

Short term Improvements

  • Closure of Woodland Park Road (west end at Highway 26) and Woodland Park road (east end at Grey Road 40). Traffic to be reassigned through the Georgian Glen Subdivision to the intersection of Grey Road 40/Indian Circle and ultimately to the intersection of Highway 26/Grey Road 40. An emergency access is to be maintained at Woodland Park Road (east end)
  • Closure of Lakewood Drive (west end at Highway 26). Traffic is to be reassigned to the intersection of Highway 26/Grey Road 40/Lakewood Drive. An emergency access is to be maintained at Lakewood Drive (west end)

Long Term Improvements

  • Intersection of Highway 26/Grey Road 40 – Potential signalization of the intersection and potential widening to four through lanes on Highway 26

Project File Report (PFR)

Notice of Completion

Preferred Solution

Based on the evaluation of the alternatives and the comments received from stakeholders, a combination of Alternatives is preferred over the short and long term.  Over the short term, the preferred Alternatives are the Realignment or Closure of Intersections, including Woodland Park Road and Lakewood Drive at their intersection with Highway 26 and Woodland Park Road at its intersection with Grey Road 40, and Additional Turning Lanes, including an eastbound right-turn lane on Highway 26 at Grey Road 40. New road connections are to be provided between Georgian Glen Subdivision and Woodland Park Road.

Over the long term, the addition of Signalized Control is preferred at the intersection of Highway 26 / Grey Road 40 / Lakewood Drive (contingent upon traffic volumes),including a Northbound Right Turn Lane.
