A Reminder of Which OPP Numbers of Call Depending on The Situation

08/12/17
9 - 1 - 1 is for emergencies only! Learn which non-emergency numbers to call for other assistance.

(COLLINGWOOD AND THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, ON) Members of the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would to remind local residents of what numbers to call depending on the situation they wish to report.

Many residents will call the local detachment phone number of 705-445-4321 to report an incident where an officer is required or report an emergency situation. Our administrative staff, who answer the calls to the above phone number, cannot dispatch officers which mean that the caller will have to be transferred from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment to the OPP Provincial Communications Center (PCC) in Orillia wasting valuable minutes and delaying officer's response to the call for service.

For non-emergencies where an officer is required, the correct number to call would be the PCC at 1-888-310-1122 (1 888 310-1133 (TTY)) 24/7 anywhere in Ontario, which will put them directly in contact with members of the PCC who will subsequently dispatch an officer.

As well if reporting an emergency, such as when the safety of people or property is at risk, the best number to call would be 9-1-1 which will put you in contact with a dispatcher where first responders, including police, fire services and paramedics, can be dispatched with little delay.

Our local detachment phone number of 705-445-4321 should only be used for topics related to administration, for example checking on the status of your criminal record check or if you wish to speak a specific officer in relation to follow up for a case you already reported through PCC or 9-1-1.

The above mentioned tips will help OPP officers to efficiently serve the community and offer residents a faster and better response to emergencies.
