Bridge rehabilitation project resumes
Work has resumed on the Beaver River Bridge improvement project.
The project hit an unexpected delay when workers discovered that asbestos-cement pipe had been imbedded in the sidewalk. A company that specializes in asbestos removal has been brought in to safely remove and dispose of the asbestos. This work should be completed by Thursday, July 22, and the improvement project will resume late this week.
Part of the work to be done, once the asbestos is removed, will involve pouring concrete. In some cases, work will cease for up to seven days to allow the concrete to cure.
The project includes replacing the bridge deck, sidewalks, and railings.
Work on the north side should be completed by early September. The work will move to the south side of the bridge after that, with the completion expected by early November.
Last winter, work to repair and upgrade the substructure of the bridge was completed.
