Our Integrated Community Sustainability Plan

Our Integrated Community Sustainability Plan

OUR INTEGRATED COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY PLAN

Our Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP) plays a significant role in Our Sustainable Path.  This plan is an overarching, long-term development strategy that provides a path towards a 'sustainable community'. It is a planning document that outlines the objectives, goals and actions of the next 50 to 100 years for different facets of our community.

This plan is unique in that it considers and incorporates ALL of the components that make our community vibrant- well paying jobs, a lively arts culture, a clean and healthy natural environment and a network of robust social programs.

Our Integrated Community Sustainability Plan is being developed by Community Partners within the community and the greater region.  The Town is responsible for facilitating this process by encouraging stakeholder participation and fostering an environment for discussion and dialogue.

The plan will be developed by tackling a variety of issues, or focus areas, that combined, will encompass the concerns of all aspects of the community. The Community Partners have formed working groups that are examining each focus area and have developed short and long-term goals and objectives pertaining to the particular issue.

The focus areas include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Environment & Natural Heritage
  • Energy, Water and Waste
  • Sense of Community
  • Built Environment
  • Infrastructure
  • Healthy, Active Community
  • Education
  • Poverty & Community Support Systems
  • Youth
  • Economic Diversity
  • Agriculture & Local Food
  • Tourism
  • Arts
  • Culture & Heritage

Over time the Plan will evolve as the Community moves towards its Sustainable Path, other topics and issues will be incorporated into the plan as required. The Plan will grow as the Community grows.

Our Plan has the following main goals:

  • Ensure the long term health and prosperity of the Community;
  • Preserve and enhance the Community's natural and environmental features;
  • Support the development of its social and recreational programs;
  • Address the Town's infrastructure needs;
  • Enhance and preserve the Community's cultural heritage;
  • Share the knowledge and experience gained here with The Blue Mountains citizens, Community Partners and other communities around the world.
