The reconstruction of Peel Street has been identified as a project in the Town’s Development Charges Background Study (DCBS) for some time. The project could not be advanced until after the heavy construction associated with local development took place. The DCBS has identified reconstruction of Peel Street to an Urban road cross-section with sidewalk, street illumination and street trees. A duplicate trunk water main is also identified in the study. The Town is currently completing a master water system analysis which will consider the need for this trunk water main.
Preliminary Engineering on the project is now close to completion. The Town will then retain a consultant to complete the Final Engineering followed by construction. Final Engineering is expected to be completed in 2022/23.
Peel Street will be reconstructed as an Urban Road with a 2.7m wide multi-use trail running parallel for pedestrians and cyclists.
