Short Term Accommodation By-law Review

A presentation was made by CAO Shawn Everitt at the July 9, 2024 Public Meeting. The presentation provided an overview of the proposed updates to By-law 2021-70 and By-law 2021-71. Following the presentation, members of the public made comments to Council regarding the proposed updates.

Staff Report FAF.24.061 was presented at the Committee of the Whole meeting on April 29, 2024. The report provided an overview of the public consultation process required as part of the by-law update process. Council voted 7-0 in favour of receiving the report and directed staff to schedule a public meeting on July 9, 2024 to receive comments from the public regarding the proposed revisions to By-law 2021-70 and By-law 2021-71.

Staff Report PDS.23.066 was presented at the Committee of the Whole meeting on August 15, 2023. The report recommended Council enact a By-law to adopt further restrictions to Short Term Accommodation uses. Council voted 7-0 in favour of receiving the report and implementing the recommendations in the staff report. The changes approved by Council restricted short-term accommodations in the town outside the exception area.

Staff Report FAF.23.050 was presented at the Committee of the Whole meeting on March 27, 2023. The report was provided as a follow up to Staff Report PDS.23.024, which was considered at the March 14, 2023, Committee of the Whole meeting. The report recommended a moratorium on accepting applications for Type B Short Term Rental Property Licenses for properties that have not been licensed before January 1, 2023. 

Council voted 7-0 in favour of receiving the report and implemented the moratorium as recommended in the staff report.
