The Blue Mountains OPP Detachment Board

  In March 2019, the Ontario government passed the Community Safety and Policing Act (CSPA) as part of the Comprehensive Ontario Policy Services Act, 2019. The CSPA came into effect on April 1, 2024 and replaced the Police Services Act, 1990. 

  The Board is a civilian body that oversees the Collingwood O.P.P. Detachment and The Blue Mountains Satellite Office, and receives its authority under the CSPA and regulations. The roles and responsibilities of O.P.P. Detachment Boards is set out under Section 68(1) of the CSPA:

  • Consult with the Commissioner regarding the selection of a Detachment Commander and otherwise participate, in accordance with the regulations made by the Minister, in the selection of the Detachment Commander;
  • Determine objectives and priorities for the Detachment, not inconsistent with the Strategic Plan prepared by the Minister, after consultation with the Detachment Commander or his or her designate;
  • Advise the Detachment Commander with respect to policing provided by the Detachment;
  • Monitor the performance of the Detachment Commander;
  • Review the reports from the Detachment Commander regarding policing provided by the Detachment;
  • On or before June 30 in each year, provide an annual report to the Town of The Blue Mountains Council regarding the policing provided by the Detachment in their municipalities.

  The Town of The Blue Mountains OPP Detachment Board meets once every quarter, and rotates hosting an annual Joint Town of Collingwood and Town of The Blue Mountains Board meeting.

  Upon approval of the 2025 Town Budget, the Board's 2025 estimates as approved by the Board will be added to this webpage.

• Procedural By-law

  The Board approved their Procedural By-law 2025-01 at their January 16, 2025 Board Meeting. The purpose of this By-law is to govern the timing, calling and location of the Board's Meetings and provide guidance on various Board actions, roles and responsibilities.
