The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is completing an Environmental Assessment to evaluate options for multiple intersections along Highway 26, including the intersection of Grey Road 2. Through this work, the Town has an opportunity to realign the Georgian Trail to eliminate the uncontrolled crossing of Highway 26, west of Lake Shore Road.

The Town was successful in securing a grant for this realignment work through Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada (HICC) – formerly Infrastructure Canada. The realignment is expected to be completed in conjunction with the intersection improvements selected through the MTO’s Environmental Assessment. The trail is expected to cross at the upgraded intersection and run along the west side of Highway 26, reconnecting with the current trail just before Lake Shore Road. This project will be completed by the MTO, with the Town and County acting as financial contributors.

In addition to the realignment of the Georgian Trail, the project is also proposed to include the construction of a fourth leg to Lake Shore Road from the intersection of Grey Road 2 and Highway 26, and closure of the existing intersection of Lake Shore Road and Highway 26 through the construction of a cul-de-sac east of the Lake Shore Sewage Lift Station.

Why Now?

The Town has the opportunity improve the safety of the Georgian Trail by eliminating an uncontrolled crossing of Highway 26, west of Lake Shore Road. The Town has also received $420,000 in grant funding for its portion of the project work.
