Update: Zoning By-Law Amendment Enacted
Town Council approved the Zoning By-law Amendment Application and passed By-law 2024-31 on April 15, 2024.
On November 28, 2022, Bill 23 received Royal Assent. This legislation amended various sections of the Planning Act to require local Official Plans and Zoning By-laws to permit up to three residential units as-of-right on residential properties within settlement areas that are connected to municipal water and sanitary sewer services. The amendments also exempt residential developments of ten (10) units or less from Site Plan Control.
On November 20, 2023, Council directed Staff to initiate the process to amend Zoning By-law 2018-65 to update the definitions and provisions related to accessory apartments. This update is proposed to bring the Zoning By-law into conformity with Provincial legislation and to further encourage the construction of Additional Residential Units (ARUs) in the Town. Various modifications to the provisions of the Zoning By-law are proposed, including to those provisions regulating building height, lot coverage, floor area, and setbacks, among others. Draft definitions and provisions are available below for review and are subject to change following public consultation and a decision of Council.
