The Craigleith Heritage Depot and the Blue Mountains Collectors Club have partnered to bring you celebration of this iconic Canadian pottery, born from the clay on the Blue Mountain. Admission is free, and donations are gratefully accepted.
This weekend event brings together experts, collectors, filmmakers, designers, pottery employees, museums, curators, craftspeople and you to discover the charm, history and importance of Blue Mountain Pottery.
This pottery was established in the early 1950’s by Jozo Weider, as part of his business portfolio at Blue Mountain. The pottery was a huge success, providing the economic foundation for the Blue Mountain Ski Resort and becoming well-known around the world. Jozo sold the pottery in the late 1960’s and it continued to grow with staff numbering in the 100's. This event will feature the Blue Mountain Pottery Collector's Club show, a Blue Mountain Pottery Staff reunion area, exhibits by local museums, and feature a special Blue Mountain Pottery cancellation stamp by Canada Post, Thornbury office. Postcards will be given to the first 250 visitors to send Blue Mountain greetings!
A new REEL History film be be launched entitled Blue Clay, it will cover the history of the pottery. The film will be shown throughout the day and will also be available on the Blue Mountain Library Website.
