Wildlife

The Town of The Blue Mountains is home to a variety of wildlife, including raccoons, turkey, rabbits, deer, coyotes and beavers. It’s common to encounter wildlife in the Town, so it is important to know how to respond appropriately and safely to a wild animal.

What to Expect

Raccoons: Commonly appear outside during the spring as they search for food. This is normal behaviour and not a cause for concern.

Coyotes, Turkey and Other Wildlife: These animals are a part of our natural environment and may be seen near residential areas.

How To Respond to a Wild Animal

  • Do Not Approach: Avoid direct contact with wildlife, do not attempt to feed, touch or relocate them yourself.
  • Protect Pets and Children: Keep pets and children indoors or closely supervised if wild animals are spotted nearby.
  • Eliminate Food Sources: Secure garbage, remove bird feeders, and do not leave pet food outside.
  • Aggressive or Dangerous Animals: If an animal is acting aggressively or you feel unsafe, call the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) at (705) 445-4321

The Town of The Blue Mountains does not provide wildlife control services. For specific situations, please contact the appropriate agency below:
