The Town of The Blue Mountains is asking all residents who have not participated in the Internet Speed Test Challenge to test their home internet speed and assist with the future improvement planning of internet connection in The Blue Mountains.
The goal of the challenge is to add 2,500 more test results to the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) database on internet speeds in the Town. To date, there have been 1,700 tests added to the database, only 800 away from the final goal.
“We are so close to achieving the goal of 2,500 internet tests, and right now we are asking residents to help fill in the gaps of the Town map, so that we can ensure our entire community is represented in the speed test results,” says Chair of the RABIT Task Force, Deputy Mayor Rob Potter. “If you live in a rural community in the Town, and want your internet enhanced, please complete the speed test, as data collected will support future applications for funding internet projects and will help bring high-speed internet to all parts of our community.”
Background Information on the Speed Test Challenge
The Internet Speed Test Challenge is an initiative of the Town’s Rural Access to Broadband Internet Technology (“RABIT”) Taskforce in collaboration with the Canadian Internet Registration Authority. The idea for the Internet Speed Test Challenge was created following a meeting held by the RABIT Task Force with internet service provides, who expressed enthusiasm for bringing affordable, high-speed internet service to all parts of the community. Through this effort, the RABIT Task Force recognized the need to have more comprehensive data on the status of internet service for all parts of the Blue Mountains.
