The Town of The Blue Mountains has launched a public survey to gain the community’s feedback on transportation in the Town and region as part of the Town’s Transportation Master Plan project.
The survey will be available until Friday, July 16, 2021 and can be accessed by visiting www.thebluemountains.ca/survey. Paper copies are available upon request by calling 519-599-3131 ext. 276 or through curbside pickup at The Blue Mountains Public Library.
As a part of the survey process, the Town has also launched an interactive mapping tool that allows the public to comment further on transportation concerns and ideas through an interactive drop-pin tool. Using the tool, the public can access a map of the Town and drop a pin on an exact location, and provide any comments, ideas or feedback regarding the specific location. The interactive mapping tool will be available to provide feedback until the conclusion of the survey on Monday, July 16, 2021.
“Our community has continued to see significant population growth, both in permanent and seasonal residents, as well as tourists and visitors,” says Councillor and Chair of the Transportation Committee, Rob Sampson. “The public survey, working alongside the map-based tool, will provide the Town with the community’s initial thoughts on transportation in our region, and allow us to create tangible actions and policies that will address immediate concerns while also setting our course for a sustainable transportation system for future generations.”
Background Information on the Transportation Master Plan
The Town is facing significant growth pressures and increased tourism activity alongside the broader South Georgian Bay region and will likely continue to see this growth into the foreseeable future. To strategically prepare for this continued growth and enhance the existing transportation network, the Town is undertaking the development of a comprehensive Transportation Master Plan that will have both a regional and local focus.
The plan will be an important resource for the Town as it continues to adapt to changing needs, growth and development, and new opportunities. It will shape how we travel, help us further understand and define our regional connections, and support the movement of goods and services throughout the region. As part of the Transportation Master Plan study process, a vision will be established, actions and policies will be defined, and a financial strategy will be developed to address the short, medium, and long-term transportation needs of the community.
