The Town's Cemetery Master Plan identified an opportunity for the creation of a Green Burial Area at the Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery. This project will include the creation of a detailed concept design aligned with the Arc Concept identified in the Cemetery Master Plan, and development of the Green Burial Area including gathering spaces, sustainable planting buffers and communal memorial features.

E. Lees & Associates Consulting Limited has been retained by the Town to complete the consultation and Landscape Architecture for the project.

Why Now?

The Town has received requests from local climate action groups and is aiming to align its services with growing and emerging trends for burials.


Project Updates

March 3, 2026 - Notice of Community Engagement Session

The Town has scheduled the first Community Engagement Session to introduce the project to the community. All those interested in the project are invited to attend. The event will include a presentation and Q&A session. The meetings will be recorded and posted to the project page for anyone unable to attend in person.

Time: 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.

Public Consultation

Community Engagement Session #1 - March 24, 2026

The first round of Community Engagement Sessions gave the Town's consultant an opportunity to present the preliminary design to the community. The Town is seeking feedback on various elements including the circulation plan, signage, memorial markers, gathering/ceremony areas and planting plan. The Town would appreciate having all comments directed to the Director of Community Services before end of day on Friday, April 10.

Feedback Form Submission Instructions

The Feedback Form has been setup as a fillable PDF file. There are two options for submission.

  1. Download the form, print it off, fill it out and drop it off to Community Services at Town Hall.
  2. Download the form, fill it out on your computer, save the file, submit it as an attachment through the contact form for the Director of Community Services.
