WHEREAS CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder is a rare neurodevelopment disease caused by mutations in the CDKL5 gene, typically beginning in infancy; and,
WHEREAS individuals affected by CDKL5 Deficiency experience a broad range of clinical symptoms and severity, with the hallmark characteristics being early-onset, intractable epilepsy and neurodevelopmental delay impacting cognitive, motor, speech and visual function; and,
WHEREAS the need for widespread awareness and understanding of CDKL5 Deficiency is essential to advancing meaningful research, improving quality of life for those affected, and fostering hope for a brighter future; and,
WHEREAS CDKL5 Awareness Month is observed annually and sponsored by the International Foundation for CDKL5 Research, which supports research, family programs, and ongoing awareness efforts.
NOW THEREFORE I, Andrea Matrosovs, Mayor of the Town of The Blue Mountains, do hereby proclaim June 2026, as CDKL5 Awareness Month in the Town of The Blue Mountains.
