WHEREAS September is recognized internationally as Childhood Cancer Awareness month; and,
WHEREAS the most recent data shows that cancer remains the leading cause of disease-related death in children; and,
WHEREAS cancer in children affects many aspects of their physical, emotional and social development as well as their family and school life, with research showing that these effects can be long-lasting; and,
WHEREAS organizations that support families affected by childhood cancer are working together to raise awareness of this disease and its devastating effects, as well as raising funds to support the affected children and their families; and,
WHEREAS raised awareness and funds can help children and their families cope with the emotional and financial toll of childhood cancer.
NOW THEREFORE I, Andrea Matrosovs, Mayor of the Town of The Blue Mountains, do hereby proclaim September 2026 as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in the Town of The Blue Mountains.
