The Town has started construction on the Thornbury Wastewater Treatment Plant Headworks Facility Upgrades. The Headworks ensures grit, rags and detritus debris is removed before the treatment process.
The scope of the work is the expansion to the existing inlet building to accommodate new processing equipment. The wastewater treatment plant will continue to operate during the construction period.
Construction began in May of 2020 but due to the COVID-19 situation, the schedule was altered for a later completion date in 2021. Initial tests began the week of June 21, and commissioning is poised to begin in early September.
Why Now?
The Headworks equipment being replaced had reached the end of its operating life.
