The Municipal Elections Act permits municipalities to make use of alternative voting methods and vote-counting equipment such as voting machines, voting recorders or optical scanning vote tabulators for Municipal and School Board elections. Council is required to pass a by-law by May 1, 2022, setting the method and manner of voting for the 2022 Municipal and School Board Election.
- On August 24, 2021, staff report FAF.21.127 "2022 Municipal Election, Selection of Method of Voting" was presented to Committee of the Whole. The report recommended that internet and telephone voting be approved as the voting method of the 2022 Municipal and School Board Election.
- Through the staff report, Council approved the following motion:
THAT Council receive Staff Report FAF.21.127, entitled “2022 Municipal Election, Selection of Method of Voting”; AND THAT Council direct that Electronic Voting – Internet and Telephone Voting, be approved as the voting method for the 2022 Municipal and School Board Election, and direct staff to provide a bylaw to a future meeting of Council for enactment;
AND THAT Council direct that additional voting locations within the Town of The Blue Mountains be offered to allow electors to vote electronically for the 2022 Municipal and School Board Election The motion is Carried
How to Get Involved
The Town of The Blue Mountains conducted a public survey between May 3, 2021 and June 1, 2021 to gain feedback regarding the preferred method(s) of voting for the 2022 Municipal and School Board Election. The survey results will be presented to Council for consideration.
In the 2018 Municipal and School Board Election, the Town used both telephone and internet voting. Prior to 2018, the method of voting was to vote by mail.
