Notice- Community Recovery Task Force Initiatives

The Town of The Blue Mountains would like to provide an update regarding the initiatives of the Community Recovery Task Force in response to the impacts of COVID-19 on the community.

Established at the March 30, 2020, Special Meeting of Council, the Task Force has started to discuss and evaluate recovery efforts to support the community. As initial actions, the three following items were approved for immediate implementation.

  1. Community Marketing Initiative
    • A dedicated website is being developed to showcase unique local experiences and to support local businesses by showcasing those which continue to operate within the Provincial COVID-19 regulations. Further details will be provided as the campaign is launched.
  1. Re-opening the Town’s Waste Disposal Site
    • Re-opening of the Town’s landfill site for public access is a priority. Staff continue to work hard to develop a plan to allow the Town’s landfill site to be re-opened to the public in a manner that will ensure safe social distancing practices. Further communication will be released to our residents that will provide clear operational details at the landfill site.
  1. Early Start to Curbside Yardwaste Collection
    • Understanding the need for early yard waste collection, the schedule was changed to allow for yard waste collection to start ahead of schedule, beginning next Tuesday, April 14, 2020, and continuing until Thursday, May 28, 2020.

“These three actions are the first small steps of many to ensure that our community is well-positioned to recover from the effects of COVID-19,” explained Mayor Soever. “The task force will continue to meet regularly to discuss and evaluate a variety of strategic efforts to support the community recovery initiative. All options are being considered, and anything that will help support our residents and business owners will be brought forward for evaluation and consideration.”
