Notice- Fire Department Warns Residents to Avoid Plastic Items in the Dishwashers

The Town of The Blue Mountains Fire Department urges residents to avoid putting plastic into dishwashers as plastic items have the potential of melting and becoming a fire hazard.

Following a fire call involving a strange burning odour, The Blue Mountains Fire Department investigated the situation and found that the source of the odour was a large plastic spoon that had been melting on the heating element of the homeowner’s dishwasher. This incident was a very close call with minimal damage, but it easily could have had a catastrophic impact if left unresolved.

Avoiding plastic items in the dishwasher is just one easy way to improve your fire prevention efforts at home. For more tips and education on fire safety within the household, please visit: https://www.thebluemountains.ca/fire-prevention.cfm?is=25
