Notice- Participate in a Virtual Remembrance Day Ceremony this year

In response to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, the Town of The Blue Mountains, in partnership with the Royal Canadian Beaver Valley Legion Branch 281 and the Blue Mountains Public Library will be hosting virtual Remembrance Day ceremonies to honour Canada’s Veterans.

The first ceremony will take place at the 229 Bruce Street Cenotaph beginning at 11:00 a.m. The second ceremony will take place at the Ravenna Cenotaph beginning at 1:00 p.m. Both ceremonies will be live-streamed to the Town of The Blue Mountains website. The live streams can be accessed by visiting: www.thebluemountains.ca/remembrance-day.cfm

“Remembrance Day is an important day for Canadians to take a moment of reflection and honour the sacrifices made by the veterans of our community and our nation,” says Mayor Alar Soever. “We understand residents may wish to show their respect and attend the event in person, but we strongly encourage you to stay home and protect each other and take part in the Town’s virtual ceremony.”

Residents who wish to learn more about the area’s local military heroes are encouraged to visit the Craigleith Depot’s online exhibit “Our Military Heritage: Second World War”.

For residents wishing to purchase a poppy locally, please visit the Remembrance Day page on the Town website to view a list of locations.
