The Town of The Blue Mountains is proud to celebrate Canadian Tourism Week (May 23rd to May 30th) and recognizes the resiliency of local tourism organizations, operators, and tourism related businesses in The Blue Mountains throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and their contribution to our community.
Coordinated by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC), Tourism Week is a national grassroots initiative that highlights the economic, social and cultural opportunities available to Canada, Grey County, and the Town of The Blue Mountains through the tourism sector.

“The tourism sector is an important contributor to the vibrancy of our community and our local economy,” states Mayor Alar Soever. “The added customer base provided by tourism allows our residents far more choices in terms of restaurants, bakeries, farm markets, wineries and cideries, art galleries, and specialty stores. Tourism is also vital to ensuring the sustainability of our recreational amenities such as ski facilities, golf courses, and bicycle shops. Without the contribution of tourism our community would be radically different.”
Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, like other industries, the local tourism sector has been significantly impacted in The Blue Mountains and has continued to modify their operations, seek innovative ways to enhance the overall shopping and visiting experience, or has halted operations completely in order to protect The Blue Mountains community and its visitors.
“On behalf of Council, I want to extend my gratitude and appreciation to all tourism providers and tourism related businesses within the community for their continued efforts to keeping our community and visitors safe over the past year,” says Mayor Alar Soever. “Your dedication and commitment have been unwavering and has achieved success in keeping our case counts low. I am advised there has been no documented transmission to our community from any tourism related businesses. We look forward to the time when we can safely welcome back visitors and celebrate your efforts, together.”
Throughout the week, Grey County Tourism will also be showcasing the value of Grey County’s tourism industry by placing a spotlight on tourism businesses throughout the area, including profiles featuring local businesses in the Town. Under the current provincial Stay-at-Home order the Town would like to remind residents and visitors to only travel locally and follow all public health guidelines including maintaining social/physical distancing protocols, washing your hands regularly with soap and water, wearing a mask or face covering whenever physical distancing is not possible, and keeping up to date with all current provincial and public health guidelines when heading outdoors.
