Notice- Town of the Blue Mountains to Receive $642,347 from Ministry of Municipal Affairs & Housing

The Town of The Blue Mountains will be receiving a one-time payment of $642,347 from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing in the 2018-2019 fiscal year.

In a letter to Mayor Soever, Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing explained that “While this investment is unconditional, it is intended to help modernize service delivery and reduce future costs through investments in projects such as: service delivery reviews, development of shared services agreements, and capital investments.”

The allocation amount was based on a formula that took into consideration the number of households within the Town of The Blue Mountains and whether the municipality is urban or rural.

“This is timely in light of the Province of Ontario’s decision to review the governance, decision-making, and service delivery functions of eight regional municipalities including Simcoe County,” explained Mayor Alar Soever. “Although we are located in Grey County, the Town and its citizens have a number of existing linkages such as health care, policing and transportation with Simcoe County and in particular the Town of Collingwood. This funding will be of great assistance for the Town as we work with Strategy Corp to identify, review and consider new service delivery models which can build on these ties and increase the efficiency and value of services to local residents.”
