WHEREAS International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8th by those who believe in gender equity and who seek to improve the lives of all women and girls (trans and cis), two spirit and gender diverse peoples through cultural, legal, economic and social change.
WHEREAS Women and girls, in particular women with disabilities, racialized women, immigrant women, two spirit and gender diverse peoples experience many forms of oppression including violence and abuse impacting their ability to experience true equity.
WHEREAS International Women’s Day is a time to work toward a world where each woman and girl can exercise her choices, and experience equity in her daily life.
On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate and encourage everyone to actively work toward a better understanding of gender, women's equality and the issues impacting the lives of women and girls worldwide. We ask that everyone challenge gender inequality, draw attention to discrimination and bias and work toward ending woman abuse so that all can genuinely embrace equity.
WHEREAS The Town of the Blue Mountains is committed to promoting equity and justice and will continue to work to address the systemic and structural oppressions that perpetuate inequity.
NOW THEREFORE I, Andrea Matrosovs, Mayor of the Town of The Blue Mountains, do hereby proclaim March 8, 2026, as “International Women’s Day” in the Town of The Blue Mountains.
