WHEREAS established in 1926, the Royal Canadian Legion is the largest service organization for veterans in Canada; and,
WHEREAS 2026 marks 100 years of the Royal Canadian Legion standing with veterans, strengthening communities and honouring the memory of those who served; and,
WHEREAS the Legion’s mission is to serve all veterans, including serving Canadian Forces and Royal Canadian Mounted Police members and their families, to promote remembrance, and to serve our communities and country; and,
WHEREAS National Legion Week is observed from Sunday, September 20, to Saturday, September 26 in 2026; and,
WHEREAS National Legion Week is designed to educate the public and celebrate the important role Legion branches play in the shared mission to serve and support veterans and contribute to local communities; and,
WHEREAS the Town of The Blue Mountains would like to recognize the contributions of the Royal Canadian Legion Beaver Valley Branch 281 to our community and country.
NOW THEREFORE I, Andrea Matrosovs, Mayor of the Town of The Blue Mountains, do hereby proclaim September 20 to 26, 2026, as National Legion Week in the Town of The Blue Mountains.
