Proclamation – World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2026

Proclamations

WHEREAS World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is observed annually on June 15 and represents a global commitment to understanding, preventing and responding to the abuse and neglect of older adults; and,

WHEREAS 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and this year’s theme, “Be Bold, Age With Attitude”, celebrates the individuals and communities who are challenging ageism, advancing rights, and reshaping what it means to grow older in Canada and beyond; and,

WHEREAS Elder abuse has significant and lasting impacts on the lives of older adults and their families and may take many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual, financial or neglect; and,

WHEREAS Elder Abuse Awareness Day is an opportunity to recognize the value and contributions of older adults, raise awareness of elder abuse and neglect, encourage prevention and response efforts, and connect individuals with information and support services in their communities.

NOW THEREFORE I, Andrea Matrosovs, Mayor of the Town of The Blue Mountains, do hereby proclaim June 15, 2026, as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in the Town of The Blue Mountains.
