The Town of The Blue Mountains would like to advise the public that at the direction of Council, in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and the Canadian Ukrainian community, the Ukrainian flag is being flown at Town Hall. In addition, blue and yellow lighting has been installed on the Bridge of Kindness next to the Town Hall.
“When at the request of Rotary we renamed the trestle bridge the Bridge of Kindness on the International Day of Kindness last November, we were focused on being kind to each other in response to the challenges of COVID-19. Today, with the barbaric Russian aggression in Ukraine, the world faces an even bigger challenge,” says Mayor Alar Soever. “Throughout the free world, people are meeting this challenge with kindness, by demonstrating their support for the people of Ukraine and opening up their homes and hearts to the innocent victims of this conflict. By lighting the bridge in blue and yellow, the colours of Ukraine, and flying the Ukrainian flag we add our voice to the chorus of voices from around the world, with the hope that kindness will prevail over brutality and aggression.”
