The Town does not have an Open Air Burning By-law or require open-air burning permits.
Property owners are responsible to ensure any open-air burning on their property is performed in accordance with the Ontario Fire Code and the Town's Open-Air Burning guidelines.
The Ontario Fire Code states that open-air burning shall not take place unless it is approved by the Fire Chief, authorized designate or an Assistant to the Fire Marshall. The Town of The Blue Mountains requires the use of fire pits, outdoor fire places and open-air burns to be reported.
Guidelines
Enforcement
Smoke, odour, particulates, soot, ash, dust or any other material that is generated by open-air burning and that has drifted onto another property falls under the Public Nuisance By-law, and By-law Enforcement will respond to such concerns on a complaint basis.
A fire that is not authorized, or that is not in accordance with the Town's Open Air Burning Guidelines, is subject to enforcement as well as the application of fees and charges per the annual by-law passed for the Imposition and Collection of Fees and Charges for Municipal Services and Activities as part of the yearly Town Budget process.
Please note that the Public Nuisance By-law does not apply to any normal farm practice.
