Grounds Maintenance to Take Place at Museum

Press Releases
Maintenance / Service Disruptions

This notice is being shared on behalf of The Blue Mountains Public Library and the Craigleith Heritage Depot.

The Town of The Blue Mountains and the Blue Mountains Public Library are working together on grounds maintenance at the Craigleith Heritage Depot Museum & Archive (Museum) this October to care for the historic property and enhance the visitor experience.

From October 19–30, work will include the removal of overgrown and invasive vegetation, pruning, and sod installation. The area around the rear deck will be opened up to improve visibility of the heritage building, create a more welcoming outdoor space, and provide an opportunity to enhance the area beside the Georgian Trail as a small parkette and rest area.

Protecting the Historic Lilacs

The historic lilacs will be retained and protected. Over time, the lilacs have spread beyond their original plantings through natural root growth. The work will help manage this growth while supporting the long-term care of the lilacs. The lilacs along the Georgian Trail will remain. In 2027, a heritage panel will be installed to share the history and significance of the lilacs, including documented information about the plantings and their connection to the site.

What Visitors Need to Know

The Museum and Georgian Trail will remain accessible throughout the work. During vegetation removal, there may be minor impacts to trail users, with measures in place to help pedestrians and cyclists pass safely. Temporary fencing will be installed around the work area while the new turf establishes. This fencing is expected to remain in place into spring 2027.

This work is part of the ongoing care and maintenance of the Museum grounds and is being completed using available 2026 operating funds.
