Short Term Accommodation By-law Review

The Town is conducting a review of by-laws related to the regulation and enforcement of Short Term Accommodations (STA's) in The Blue Mountains.

The review is focused on the following two by-laws:

  1. By-law 2021-70 being a By-law to Regulate and License Businesses in the Town of The Blue Mountains
  2. By-law 2021-71 being a By-law to Establish a Comprehensive System of Administrative Monetary Penalties for the Town of The Blue Mountains

The current by-laws, which were approved in 2021, are scheduled for review and update in 2025. Updating the by-laws requires a formal public process, which includes a public meeting.

Project Updates

July 25, 2025 - Summer 2025 Status Update and Next Steps

The Short-Term Accommodation Working Group continues to make steady progress as they work toward finding common ground on key regulatory issues. Recent discussions have focused on identifying balanced solutions around the demerit points system, administrative monetary penalties (AMPs), and the role and responsibilities of the designated Responsible Person.

The Working Group is approaching these topics collaboratively, aiming to ensure that the resulting policies are fair, enforceable, and reflect the interests of all stakeholders. While there is still work to be done, the group is committed to developing practical recommendations that support compliance and maintain community standards.

The anticipated timeline for bringing this matter before Committee of the Whole (COW) is Fall 2025. Staff will continue to provide updates as the work progresses and draft recommendations take shape.
