The Town of The Blue Mountains would like to inform the public of wastewater overflow and bypass events that occurred on Thursday, April 3, 2025. At approximately 12:15 a.m., the Mill Street Sewage Pumping Station located at 18 Bay Street East started an overflow event. At approximately 4:00 a.m., the Craigleith Wastewater Treatment Plant located at 146 Long Point Road started bypassing partially treated effluent. Both events were a result of excessive rainfall contributing to increased flows. The area saw a total of 70mm of precipitation between 9:00 p.m. on April 2, and 2:00 a.m. on April 3.

The Town’s Wastewater Operators collected samples at the beginning of each event, and will continue sampling until the events have concluded. The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has been notified of both incidents, and a message has been left with Grey Bruce Public Health. Staff have no concerns about any threats to public health or environmental impacts.
